Superior Percussion racks, The long story
During a recent visit to Casa Virtual Cymbals.com a friend remarked that “people are competing for space with cymbals – and the cymbals are winning”. A long discussion ensued with me lamenting that cymbal and drum storage was an issue (or a major issue) for most of the ‘bronze addicted’, and that there was no easy solution.
For many of us cymbals are stacked against walls taking up huge space, stuffed into bags meaning that you can’t easily get after them, or tucked into forgotten corners awaiting discovery on some rainy ‘drum-room organizing day’ (which are few and far between). In the next best situation plates are stored on retail cymbal racks (which are awkward and not designed for the home user), or for those with resources placed on expensive racks created by people with a shop full of tools, lumber, skills, and time.
A discussion ensued with me outlining what I would consider the ‘ultimate cymbal storage solution’. Yes, such is my addiction, that we actually spent a good couple of hours talking about cymbals and how to store them, rather then politics, the economy, the state of the world, etc. . . . I do have a problem.
The Prototype
A few weeks passed and I pretty much forgot about our storage conversation until this same friend called to say that he would be rolling into town later that week. Keys were placed under the mat and I arrived home to find two of the most exquisite racks assembled in my living room.

Needless to say I was blown away. The basic design was adapted from custom racks made to hold bowling balls – lots of bowling balls. In case you haven’t been bowling in a while, bowling balls are heavy.
